Cohesity appoints Vasu Murthy as chief product officer

Today

Cohesity has announced the appointment of Vasu Murthy as Senior Vice President and Chief Product Officer.

Murthy brings over 25 years of experience in enterprise software development, ranging from startups to large global brands, with significant expertise in data protection, security, and analytics. He will utilise his skills to enhance Cohesity's data security portfolio.

Prior to joining Cohesity, Murthy was Vice President of Products at Rubrik, where he was instrumental in growing the company's annual recurring revenue tenfold over six years leading up to its initial public offering. At Rubrik, he was pivotal in transitions from software to subscription models, on-premises to cloud solutions, and from backup to comprehensive data security.

Murthy's experience extends to his time at Oracle, where he served as Vice President of Products for the Analytics Platform. During this period, he launched multiple products each generating revenues exceeding USD $100 million while contributing to cloud transformation initiatives. Murthy entered Oracle through the acquisition of DataScaler, an in-memory database company he co-founded. He holds a degree from IIT Kharagpur.

Sanjay Poonen, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cohesity, stated, "Vasu's strong experience supporting organizations through significant growth and transformational change with a customer-first mindset, as well as his deep domain expertise, made him the perfect fit for Cohesity. Vasu has consistently delivered exceptional results in his past experiences, shaping product portfolios to meet customer needs while driving business evolution and transformation. His data protection, security, and analytics expertise will help us further extend our innovations as we enter a new era of Cohesity in the coming years."

Murthy expressed his enthusiasm for joining the company, "Cohesity has taken an aggressive and innovative approach to leveraging AI to strengthen the security of its platform and offer customers new insight into their business data. And combining Cohesity with Veritas' enterprise data protection business will only bring more resources to develop new products at scale, something I'm deeply excited about. Cohesity has a differentiated vision and platform that has the potential to transform the industry completely. As we scale our R&D investments and build best-in-class offerings to support global customers, I look forward to partnering with the team to make a bigger impact. I'm thrilled to join Cohesity in their journey as we enter the next growth phase."

Murthy's appointment comes at a time when Cohesity is experiencing substantial momentum. Earlier this year, the company declared its intent to merge with Veritas's data protection business. Cohesity also initiated a collaboration with NVIDIA to enhance the secure utilisation of generative AI, securing NVIDIA as a new investor in March.

The partnership with IBM was further strengthened in April when the two companies announced joint efforts to improve cyber resilience, leading to IBM's investment in Cohesity. The company received accolades in August when it was named to the Forbes 2024 Cloud 100 list for the fifth time and had its product, Cohesity Gaia, recognized as a 2024 Tech Innovator by CRN in the AI category.

Cohesity continues to enhance its product offerings and strategic partnerships, developing alliances with companies like Crowdstrike and Intel. It also recently launched an advanced visualisation tool for Gaia.

The leadership team at Cohesity welcomed several industry experts throughout the year, including Dr. Craig Martell as Chief Technology Officer, alongside appointments of Olivier Savornin and Fraser Hutchinson in leadership roles across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
