SoftTech launches EV approvals system for highways
Fri, 22nd May 2026 (Yesterday)
SoftTech Engineers has launched a Single Window Approval System for the EV ecosystem and wayside amenities under the NHEV initiative, aiming to streamline approvals for EV charging infrastructure on national highways.
The platform brings land allocation, lease processing, design approvals, construction permits and operational clearances into a single digital process. Developed as part of an Ease of Doing Business push for NHEV infrastructure, it is designed to digitise the full project lifecycle for highway EV projects.
The system gives government bodies, developers, investors and service providers a single interface for approvals and compliance steps that are often handled across multiple departments. At its core is a consolidated workflow linking key government and project stakeholders, allowing users to track project stages in real time and manage compliance documents digitally rather than through fragmented paper-based processes.
Approval process
The launch places SoftTech more directly in the emerging market for digital systems tied to public EV infrastructure. While much of the focus in electric mobility has been on vehicles and charging hardware, the administrative side of deployment remains a major factor in how quickly charging networks can be rolled out, particularly on long-distance transport corridors.
National highways are central to that build-out, as charging availability on intercity routes is seen as important to wider EV adoption. A system that reduces delays in permits, land-use approvals and departmental coordination could influence how quickly charging sites and associated roadside amenities move from planning to operation.
According to SoftTech, the platform serves three main stakeholder groups: policymakers and authorities, project developers and investors, and service providers. Bringing those groups onto one platform is intended to support faster decisions and clearer accountability at each stage of a project.
SoftTech has built its business around software for the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operations sector, as well as public administration processes. Its products are used in areas including building plan approvals, urban governance and infrastructure project monitoring, giving it an established role in government-facing digital systems.
Mobility push
The move also reflects a broader effort to link transport infrastructure policy with digital administration tools. Governments and public agencies have increasingly turned to software platforms to reduce bottlenecks in infrastructure projects, especially where multiple authorities, technical reviews and compliance checks can slow execution.
In the case of EV charging on national highways, those bottlenecks can include identifying and allocating land, securing leases, obtaining engineering approvals, coordinating construction permissions and securing final clearances before a facility opens. Bringing those stages into one system could help create a more standardised path for project sponsors and contractors.
Vijay Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director of SoftTech Engineers, framed the launch around the wider shift to electric mobility.
"SoftTech is proud to support India's electric mobility ambitions through this Single Window Approval System. By bringing together all stakeholders on a unified digital platform, we are enabling faster, more transparent deployment of EV infrastructure across our National Highways, a critical step in building consumer confidence and reducing fossil fuel dependency at scale," Gupta said.
SoftTech also pointed to the role of the NHEV framework in shaping the project. The initiative focuses on building support infrastructure for electric vehicles on highway corridors, where charging access and related roadside services are considered necessary for long-distance travel.
The system was developed to fit that infrastructure model by combining administrative oversight with project management functions. That includes monitoring each stage, from the initial allocation of land to final operating approval, which can involve different authorities and technical sign-offs.
SoftTech's existing portfolio includes software used by government bodies and infrastructure organisations to digitise planning, approvals and project monitoring. The latest launch extends that work into transport electrification, where software vendors are seeking a larger role in the operational systems behind public infrastructure programmes.
The company also thanked Abhijeet Sinha, National Program Director - EODB, for his involvement in the initiative. It said the new platform covers the full project lifecycle, from land allocation to operational clearance, within a single digital ecosystem.
