Workday has appointed John Lombard as President for Asia Pacific. He joins the software company after a decade as Asia-Pacific Chief Executive Officer at NTT Data.

Based in Australia and Singapore, Lombard will oversee Workday's regional go-to-market strategy, commercial operations and expansion across key Asia-Pacific markets.

He brings more than 30 years of technology and advisory experience. Before NTT Data, he held senior roles at SAP, KPMG Australia and Crowe Howarth.

The appointment puts Lombard in charge of one of Workday's key international regions as it pursues broader growth across Asia Pacific. His remit includes scaling the business, expanding the partner network and working with customers using Workday's software for human resources, finance and IT.

More than 11,500 organisations use Workday's products worldwide, including over 65% of the Fortune 500. The company positions its software around core business functions, including staffing, financial processes and internal systems.

Regional brief

Lombard's background spans technology suppliers and advisory firms, giving him experience across software, consulting and corporate services. His career has included helping large organisations navigate regulatory requirements, modernise technology systems and use data in business planning.

Most recently, he led NTT Data's Asia-Pacific business for ten years. Earlier roles at SAP and KPMG Australia added experience in software sales and professional services, while his time at Crowe Howarth broadened that base into financial and business advisory work.

Asia Pacific has become a closely watched market for global software groups, with demand shaped by digital investment, local regulation and competition among cloud providers. For companies such as Workday, the region combines mature economies with developing markets that often require different sales approaches and partner relationships.

Lombard outlined his view of the opportunity in the region. "Asia Pacific is an epicenter of global innovation, presenting an incredible opportunity for businesses to leverage intelligent technology for a competitive edge - and Workday is uniquely positioned to help them do that," said John Lombard, President, Asia Pacific, Workday.

"I am thrilled to join the team at this pivotal moment to deepen our regional relationships and support our customers through their digital transformation," Lombard said.

Rob Enslin linked the appointment to customer demand in the region. "John's appointment comes at a critical juncture as APAC organizations increasingly look to AI to elevate employee experiences and optimize financial performance," said Rob Enslin, President and Chief Commercial Officer, Workday.

"His deep regional expertise, customer-first mindset, and proven track record of building high-performing teams will be instrumental as we scale our operations and help businesses unlock the full potential of the Workday platform," Enslin said.

Workday has been building its profile as a supplier of business software that combines human resources, finance and IT tools on a single platform. It has increasingly emphasised artificial intelligence in its product positioning as software vendors compete to tie automation and data analysis more closely to routine business tasks.

For Asia-Pacific customers, leadership appointments such as this often signal where vendors see room for expansion and expect demand to grow. Lombard now leads Workday's efforts across the region, with responsibility for sales execution, operations and market growth.
