Adyen expands into India, sets up tech hub in Bengaluru
Adyen has announced its expansion into the Indian market, following the receipt of authorisation from the Reserve Bank of India to operate as an Online Payment Aggregator for both domestic and cross-border payments.
This move includes the establishment of a technology hub in Bengaluru (Bangalore) and the launch of local payment processing capabilities.
Adyen's new offerings in India will enable merchants to optimise each transaction with local payment processing through its comprehensive payment platform. "The continued push for a Cashless India presents an opportunity for businesses to offer new customer journeys in the fastest growing e-commerce market in the world," said Ingo Uytdehaage, Co-CEO of Adyen.
The company's expansion strategy aims to support digital payment transformations through its global full-stack solution and local payment processing capabilities. Aditya Khullar, Country Manager for India at Adyen, commented, "We are looking to help transform digital payments in India with our global full-stack solution and local payment processing capabilities, optimising transactions so our merchants can focus on opportunities to scale in India. We are committed to our merchants' long-term growth as we steadily scale our presence in India."
In addition to payment processing, Adyen is also establishing a technology hub in Bengaluru. This new hub will bring technical resources closer to merchants and allow Adyen to leverage India's vast pool of tech talent to build and support payment products both for the Indian market and Adyen's global platform.
Adyen manages the entire payment flow for its merchants, including gateway, risk management, and acquiring services. This enables brands to accelerate global expansion and optimise their payment processes while meeting customer expectations.
The platform offers businesses insights around local schemes and payment methods, leveraging its deep acquiring expertise and best-in-class technology. With direct card acquiring connections with major card schemes like Visa, Mastercard, and Rupay, as well as local direct debit payments such as UPI, transactions are processed locally within India via the Adyen platform.
Merchants can utilise Adyen's single platform to offer all key payment methods preferred by shoppers, including credit and debit cards, alongside relevant local payment methods.
Adyen is a financial technology platform. By providing end-to-end payments capabilities, data-driven insights, and financial products in a single global solution, Adyen aims to help businesses achieve their ambitions. With offices around the world, Adyen works with the likes of Meta, Uber, H&M, and eBay.
