Tech Data has expanded its IBM distribution footprint across Asia Pacific, extending its specialised IBM practice to 10 markets in the region.

The expansion adds Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and the Philippines to existing operations in Australia, India, Singapore and Vietnam. In Malaysia, the business will operate under the Tec D brand.

The rollout is part of parent company TD SYNNEX's broader expansion of its IBM distribution relationship across Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin America, covering 20 new countries globally.

For partners in Asia Pacific, the change means broader access to IBM products and services through Tech Data's regional channel network. It also brings Select Blue, a joint initiative with IBM, to the newly added markets.

Select Blue is designed to help partners build repeatable practices in areas including artificial intelligence, data and automation. Partners will also have access to enablement, financing, pre-sales and go-to-market support.

The expansion comes as distributors and vendors seek to standardise channel programmes across borders while responding to demand for AI-related products and services. For large resellers and managed service providers, consistent vendor support across multiple countries is becoming a more important factor in regional expansion plans.

Jaideep Malhotra, President, TD SYNNEX APJ, described the move as an extension of an existing regional relationship with IBM.

"This expansion reflects the continued strength of the partnership between Tech Data, a TD SYNNEX company, and IBM across Asia Pacific," said Jaideep Malhotra, President, TD SYNNEX APJ.

"We are excited to expand our portfolio of IBM solutions to six additional markets - Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and the Philippines, building on our existing specialized IBM practice in Australia, India, Singapore, and Vietnam. Together, we are creating greater access to IBM technologies, expertise, and support for partners across ten APJ markets, enabling them to capture new growth opportunities and deliver greater value to their ecosystem and customers," Malhotra said.

The programme is intended to give partners a more structured route into IBM sales and services. It is aimed at both existing IBM partners and firms entering the vendor's ecosystem in the newly covered countries.

Mark Martin, Vice President, Global Vendor Management, TD SYNNEX, said the regional expansion would also widen the company's reach to a broader partner base.

"With this expansion, we are extending our reach into additional markets while connecting with a broader set of partners looking to grow their IBM business," said Mark Martin, Vice President, Global Vendor Management, TD SYNNEX.

"And through our program Select Blue, we're providing a clear path to engage, specialize, and execute confidently, helping both new and existing partners enter new markets and accelerate revenue growth," Martin said.

Regional push

Tech Data is one of the core distribution businesses within TD SYNNEX, which works with more than 150,000 customers in more than 100 countries. The IBM expansion underscores the role of established distributors in helping vendors deepen coverage in fragmented markets, particularly where local execution and channel relationships matter.

In the new markets, the company will follow a common global framework while executing locally. The model is intended to give partners a more consistent experience across countries while retaining in-market support.

IBM has long relied on distributors and resellers to reach customers across Asia Pacific, especially in markets where the indirect channel remains central to software, infrastructure and services sales. Adding six markets to Tech Data's remit broadens that route to market and may sharpen competition among distributors seeking a larger share of IBM-related channel business in the region.

The move also highlights continued channel investment around artificial intelligence, data and automation, which remain key focus areas for vendors and partners seeking new revenue sources. By tying the expansion to a formal programme, Tech Data is seeking to make that sales motion more consistent across both mature and developing partner markets.

The enlarged footprint is intended to support a more consistent partner experience and open opportunities across both existing and newly added territories.
