TouchBistro has launched TouchBistro One, a handheld device for restaurant staff that combines ordering, payments and receipt printing in one product.

Aimed at full-service restaurants, it is designed to work with the company's mobile-first point-of-sale system.

TouchBistro is positioning the device as a response to common operational problems, including payment delays, slower table turnover and the cost of maintaining multiple pieces of hardware. It brings together functions that are often split across separate tools used by serving staff during a shift.

According to the company, the software includes table management and menu navigation tools for tableside service. The hardware is compact, offers battery life intended to last a full shift and was built to withstand the demands of restaurant environments.

Single device

The launch reflects a broader push among restaurant technology suppliers to move more front-of-house tasks onto handheld devices. For operators, the appeal lies in being able to take orders, process payments and issue receipts at the table without staff moving between terminals or returning to a fixed till.

TouchBistro says the new device is fully integrated with its existing point-of-sale and payment systems, reducing manual steps and lowering the risk of errors that can arise when staff move between disconnected systems.

Basil Abou Aishi, Vice President of Technology, said the device was developed around the way restaurant staff work during service rather than by shrinking an existing product.

"TouchBistro was founded on the belief that restaurant technology should meet staff where service happens. TouchBistro One builds on that vision with a handheld experience purpose-built for the pace and workflow of tableside service," said Basil Abou Aishi, Vice President of Technology at TouchBistro.

"Rather than simply adapting our existing POS to a smaller form factor, we designed TouchBistro One specifically around the way restaurant staff move through service, bringing ordering, payments and receipt printing together in a single device that helps teams stay focused on delivering great hospitality," he said.

Operator input

TouchBistro said it worked with full-service restaurant operators and their teams while developing the product. Testing took place in restaurant settings, and real-time feedback from staff informed the final design.

That focus on floor-level testing addresses a common challenge for hospitality technology providers. Devices used in restaurants must cope with long shifts, spills, drops and heavy daily use while fitting into service routines that leave little room for technical friction.

Abou Aishi said operator feedback shaped the software experience.

"We partnered closely with restaurant operators and their staff throughout development," he said.

"Their feedback directly shaped how we refined the software experience, ensuring it fits naturally into day-to-day operations."

Restaurant focus

TouchBistro said the product is focused specifically on full-service dining, where staff often need to manage table service, take payments and keep guests moving through the venue without interrupting the meal. In that setting, handheld devices have become a practical way to cut wait times at key moments, especially when customers are ready to settle the bill.

The company also said combining several functions in one unit may reduce hardware spending for some operators, particularly those that would otherwise buy separate ordering devices, card terminals and receipt printers. The commercial case will depend on how restaurants weigh upfront device costs against labour efficiency, replacement cycles and the reliability of all-in-one equipment.

TouchBistro sells point-of-sale and restaurant management software covering front-of-house, back-of-house and guest engagement functions. With the launch of TouchBistro One, it is extending that offering further into the day-to-day workflow of serving staff on the restaurant floor.

The company said the device was designed "to withstand everything a shift may bring".
